This program is designed to aid SysOps and users in making music for
modem use. Various programs, such as QMODEM, support music sent over the
line. The format is Esc[MF(or MB) and the musical phrase. The ending
characters must be a Ctrl-N (ASCII 14). This is rather difficult to use, so
I have made this transparent to the user in Moon Song. Most of it is self
explainatory, but some functions may need a little explaination.
When you start a new song, you'll have to select the tempo. 120 is
standard, and it becomes slower as the number lessens. Use the arrows to
select this. Next, you'll be offered the choice of normal, legato, or
staccato. This is also selected with the arrows. Now you'll be able to
enter music. The program uses an improvised staff, and allows you to move
a musical note through it, sounding as it goes. You may select octaves
with the "O", tempo with the "T", etc. A "?" will get you a menu. To
input a note, use the arrows to position the music note where you want it.
Press return. At this point, you may add sharps or flats. Sharps get a "#"
in front, and flats get a "-" in front. Press return, and now you may
select the duration with the arrows. These correspond to whole, half,
quarter, etc., notes (for instance, 2 is a half note, and 4 is a quarter
note). Press return to select it. You will then be shown the entire line,
with notation. If you accept it, you simply press return. If you would
like to make it a dotted note, put in a ".", or you can re-type the
entire line, to change any incorrect notation. You can always edit this.
Your note has then been recorded. A "P" will play up to the point you are
in the song. To move backwards, just use the left arrow. You can easily
edit notes this way. When the piece is finished, use the "S" option to
save it. It will now be ready for uploading, in a file with a ".MDM" ex-
tension. The other file, with a ".MSC" extension, contains the note codes.
If you have any questions, your best bet is to either call
The Speak Easy at (818) 905-6262, and ask me (since I'm a sysop), or
read section 4-209 - 4-212 in the BASIC manual. There will be updates
of this program, available for download on The Speak Easy and other
bulletin boards. Enjoy this!
